Who in your life have you underestimated?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 13, 2009:
When I was 13 years, the pastor of our church taught me a valuable lesson which I have never forgotten: He said always place anyone you meet on the same level as yourself. If you place them so high above you and they fall, you will be shocked. If you place them beneath you and they rise above you, you will be pissed. But if you place them on the same level, and they go up or down in status, if won't throw you off.
So, I try not to over or under estimate anyone. We are all equals until proven otherwise.

I like this Pastor of your's Carolyn!
Truth be told, Bob, I couldn't stand the man. He was huge, overbearing, condescending, patronizing, and full of hot air. But I have always remembered that piece of wisdom.
Blessings, Carolyn
Suddenly I feel quite foolish. ;) Won't be the last time I'm sure!
Oh, please don't. From that piece of advice, he was a great pastor. Overall, not so great. But, I only took away that one piece of advice and it has stayed with me over 30 years.
Had I had the awareness then that I have now, I may have seen him in a different light. But then, would I have remembered that one piece of wisdom, who knows?
